Elsie Elva Johnson, 78, died on January 13, 2013 at Juniper House in Pendleton, Oregon. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, January 19th at the Pendleton Free Methodist Church at 1711 SW 44th Street, Pendleton, OR. Donations can be made to Free Methodist Missions through either the Pendleton Free Methodist Church or Pendleton Pioneer Chapel at 131 SE Byers, Pendleton, OR 97801.

Elsie was born May 18, 1934 in Prosser Washington to Mary Margaret De Good. On May 2, 1952 Elsie married LeRoy Johnson in the Pendleton First Baptist Church. LeRoy and Elsie Johnson were married for 58 years and lived in Pendleton where they raised their four children, Paul, David, Elizabeth and Timothy. Elsie worked in the Pendleton School District for 21 years retiring in 1990. Over her lifetime she was an active part of the community volunteering in the PTA, Cub Scouts, 4H, St. Anthony Hospital and her church. She served in the Pendleton Free Methodist church for 31 years where she taught many different age levels, led women’s Bible Studies, participated in community fund raising for missions, as well as many other ministries that she was called to do.

Elsie (aka “Bugs”) will be especially remembered for the beautiful quilts she made for her family and for the grandma time she so lovingly shared with her grandchildren reading to them, playing games with them, and making grandma’s chocolate chip cookies together. She always looked forward to having her family gather around and be together; whether it was a birthday party, anniversary or just any reason to have a “silly” party. This is a legacy she will want to have continued.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, LeRoy and one son, Paul Johnson. She leaves behind son, David Johnson and his wife Lori Johnson, daughter Elizabeth Cassens and her husband Allen Cassens, son Timothy Johnson and his wife Amy Johnson, and daughter-in-law Dianne Johnson along with 12 grandchildren and some great grandchildren.

Dave, Tim and Elizabeth and families, I'm so sorry for your loss. I remember your Mom as my Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church, even with a class full of rambunctous boys she was always kind, gentle, and patient. In later years whenever I saw her she always asked about the family and had a kind word to say. She was a sweet lady. You are all in our thoughts and prayers..
