Jacqueline (Gibson) Iribarren, a long-time resident of Pilot Rock, Oregon and the Columbia Basin, passed away Tuesday the 4th of July surrounded by her family.

Born in 1939 in Pendleton, Oregon, Jackie was the oldest of five children and graduated from Pilot Rock High School in 1958. Jackie received her Business degree in Portland, Oregon and returned to Pilot Rock to work for the local Lumber Mill as a secretary until she married Pascual Iribarren in 1962. She raised four children in the Mesa, Washington area and helped to run a farming and ranching enterprise across the Columbia Basin for twenty years before returning to the Pilot Rock area.

Jackie was an avid horse enthusiast and rider, spending much of her youth breaking horses, competing, riding in the Pendleton Round-Up and showing horses at livestock events. Jackie loved animals, raising them all of her life and in her later years, she bred and raised several unique horse and other livestock breeds on her farm near Pilot Rock.

She is survived by her four children, Martina, Miguel, Patrick and Steven, her former husband, Pascual Iribarren, siblings, Janet McKague, Joyce Gibson, Thomas Gibson, and Buster Gibson, eleven nieces and nephews and seven grandchildren, who all love her dearly.
Memorial gifts may be made to the CURE PSP foundation, the leading source of information on prime of life neurodegenerative diseases, including PSP, CBD, MSA, ALS, CTE and FTD: www.psp.org

A service will be held Saturday, July 22 at 2 pm at the Pendleton Pioneer Chapel, 131 S.E. Byers Avenue, to remember Jackie and celebrate her life. Burial will follow at the old Pilot Rock Cemetery on East Birch Creek Road, with an informal gathering afterward at the Pilot Rock Community Center.

Jackie was a strong, giving, loving and wonderful mother, grandmother, wife, sister and aunt and will be forever missed by her family and friends, but never forgotten.

I will always treasure the memories of having Jackie in the same classroom in grade school at Pilot Rock. It was a fun time as we all played in the wood pile during noon and recess. It was one of the treasured times with my cousin. Another memory is when we had a sleep over with Zora Fore.

What a privilege it was to have met Jackie. She showed us how to both live and die. She faced her challenge with dignity. Her family and caregivers are to be saluted.May the peace of God bring comfort to them all. Rest in peace Jackie.

Jackie will always be remembered for being a loving mother and friend. As our children grew up together she was always there supporting them in their 4-H projects, school and sports. She will always be remembered as a beautiful soul inside and out.
