Barbara Ellmore Gentner was born in Baker City, Oregon to Walter and Bessie Greene.  She graduated from La Grande High school in 1946.  After graduation, she moved to San Diego, California to become a Legal Secretary. There she met Robert U. Gentner, who was serving in the Navy.  They married November 1949 in Yuma, Arizona.   After Bob was discharged from the Navy, they moved to Bradford, Penn. to start their family.  After a few years and 3 children later, Gary, Deb, and Rick. they decided to move to Pendleton, Oregon, bringing Bob’s mom Edna Gentner with them.   After moving to Pendleton they had two more children, Rob and Barbara Ann.  Barbara worked many jobs as a controller and bookkeeper.   She worked for Western Farm Service in Athena, Oregon for 15 years, also Montgomery Ward, and C&I sugar in Boardman, Oregon. At one point in her life, she worked at a small music store on 1st street in Pendleton and gave piano, organ and accordion lessons.

After years of living in Pendleton. the Gentners bought a small farm between Reith and Echo where they raised alfalfa and a few cows.  After the boys left home, cattle became too hard for Bob and Barbara so they eventually only kept 2 bands of sheep.  Age was catching up with them so they sold the farm and RV traveled for 10 to 15 years. Finally landing in Bend, Oregon where Barbara managed a 55 and older retirement park. After another 10 years, they decided to come home to Pendleton and live out their remaining years around family and bridge card playing buddies.

Barbara is survived by her husband Bob, children, Deb, Rick, Rob and Barbara Ann, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Pendleton Pioneer Chapel, Folsom-Bishop.  A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 24 at Skyview Memorial Park in Pendleton.
