Leslie Flint, better known as "Babe", lost his life due to an accident on June 23, 2018.  Babe was born on July 8, 1938, to Clarence and Mildred (Bestrom) Flint in Colville, WA.

The Flint family moved to Ukiah, Oregon in 1942.  His dad was a logger in the Ukiah area.  Babe's school years were at Ukiah and he graduated in 1956.  Shortly after graduation, he joined the Navy.  His military time was mostly aboard the aircraft carrier, The USS Shangri-La, as an aircraft mechanic.  The commander of that ship was Eugene Cernan, who later was the last man to walk on the moon during the Apollo mission.

After 4 years in the Navy, he returned to Ukiah and began a career in logging.  He had many employers over the years and he worked mostly as a log truck driver.  Near the end of his career, he drove for Britt Brothers.  He considered them family and they him.  Babe was well liked by all, a kind and considerate person.   Babe and Jo loved camping, sports, hunting, and the great outdoors.  Babe especially followed the Mariners and the basketball team for the Gonzaga Bulldogs.  He often checked in with his brother, Chuck, to discuss the outcome of these games.

He was pre-deceased by his wife, Joann, his parents, his sister, Anna Mae Rowe and her husband, Wayne, step daughter, Kim Hinkle, niece Barbara Rowe Jackson and other family members.  His survivors are his brother, Charles, and sister-in-law, Shirley Flint.  Nieces are Beverly Orcutt, Lynn Myers, Cynndi Mazi, Jill Collins, JoAnn Byrd along with their husbands and children.  Nephews are Mike, Doug and Kenny Flint along with their wives and children.  Son-in-law is Jim Hinkle and wife Nancy (they have been a God send during this tragic time).   We will miss him greatly.

The graveside service will be held on Friday, June 29th, at 2 pm at the Pilot Rock Cemetery.  A luncheon will follow the service at the Pilot Rock Community Center.  Please join the family for a celebration of his life.

We were so lucky to have you as our Uncle, my heart is broken, by golly you left far too soon. I loved hearing the old stories. My favorite was when you told me you and the boys had been out, and Grandpa was reading his newspaper. You said you were feeling a little "foxy" so you started bapping at his paper. Grandpa said don't do that again .. which you did .. and he popped up and ;laid you out before you knew what had happened .. never mess with an old Boxer .. I will cherish those stories and the time we had together .. By Golly .. til we meet again ..

I was very sorry to read that Babe passed on.I attended school with him through our Freshman year at Ukiah. Had so much fun with him and all the kids in Ukiah. In the evenings there were so many of us out playing kick the can or flag football and other games. Babe was a good sport and fun to be around. My sincere sympathy to Chuck and and all of Babe's family. I know he will be missed by all. Your Friend,Valdine

So sorry about Babe's passing. I remember him from the dances and rodeos at Ukiah. Also remember his dad. He and my dad were friends working for Oliver Kerr. My condolences to the family.

John
