Alan Ralph Kendrick, 83, of Pendleton, Oregon, passed away peacefully on September 5, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born on October 7, 1940, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Ralph and Irene Kendrick, Alan lived a life full of love, service, and dedication to his family, community, and profession.
Alan graduated from Gooding High School in Gooding, Idaho, in 1958. Following in the footsteps of his father, who owned Kendrick Drug in Gooding, Alan pursued a degree in pharmacy, graduating from Idaho State University in 1963. He worked for 33 years as the Director of Pharmacy at St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton, Oregon, where he was known for his excellence in his profession and his care for patients and colleagues alike.
In 1962, Alan married Dorrine Deck, the love of his life, whom he met at pharmacy school. Together, they raised three children, Janet, Joyce, and Jeff. Alan’s family was his pride and joy, and he always found time to coach his children and grandchildren in Little League baseball, youth basketball and soccer.
Alan served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1964-1966, and his commitment to service extended beyond the military. He served on the Oregon Board of Pharmacy for nine years. Alan was an active member of the United Methodist Church. He served on the Pendleton Park and Recreation Commission for 41 years. Alan’s dedication to his community was also seen in his 57-year membership with Lions Club International.
Alan loved sports and the outdoors. He was an avid skier and golfer and played city league basketball until the age of 55. A Pendleton Men's Chorus member, he found joy in music and friendship. A special part of his daily life was meeting with his morning coffee group, where, as he liked to say, they "solved the problems of the world." Alan was known for his warm smile, big heart, and kind words. He often remarked that the two best decisions he ever made were marrying Dorrine and moving to Pendleton.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorrine, his children Janet, Joyce, and Jeff, his sister Helen LaFleur, and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and
great-nieces and nephews. Alan was particularly proud to have three generations of nephews named after him.
The family would like to thank both Vange John Hospice and Angela Boston for their wonderful care of Alan.
A memorial service will be held on October 12, 2024, at Pioneer Chapel in Pendleton, Oregon. A luncheon reception will be held at Hamley's Slickfork Saloon following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Vange John Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
