Amy Anderton Obituary

Amy Kathleen (Sloan) Anderton, 65, passed away from breast cancer on March 9th, 2024 at home in Pendleton, Oregon, surrounded by members of her close family. She was born on November 28, 1958 in Pendleton, Oregon to Jim Sloan Sr. and Margaret (Doane) Sloan. She grew up on the family farm on the Umatilla River in Cayuse and graduated from Pendleton High school. After graduation, she attended Rick’s College where she studied Early Childhood Development  Family Studies. It was there that she met George Anderton while they both worked in the kitchen as dishwashers. She later married George and together they raised six children. She spent many years as a stay at home mom, raising the kids, making homemade meals, gardening, and canning. Later,  she received an Associate of Technical Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from Wenatchee Valley College and worked as a medical lab technician at Interpath Laboratories.

Amy was known for her love of music, seafood, the mountains, and bright happy colors. She loved to sing and play the piano. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, hiking, picking huckleberries, and spending time with her family, friends, and pets. She had fifteen grandchildren, and her first great-grandchild is on the way. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and she loved serving in the temple and sharing her testimony of Christ’s love. She demonstrated incredible resilience, strength, and optimism as she served as a caregiver for her husband and parents and as she faced her own health challenges. She will be remembered fondly for her sense of humor, her laugh, her bright smile, and her kindness. She was cherished by all who knew her.

Amy is survived by her siblings Judy Coffman, Jim Sloan Jr, Tom Sloan, and Tami Dreger, by her children Jane Olsen (Ryan), Adam Anderton (Lachelle), Cindy Shurtz (Joe), Vaughn Anderton, Emma Norquist (Chance), and Peter Anderton (MarKaye), and her fifteen grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband George, her parents Jim and Margaret, and her siblings Joyce, Becky, and Johnny.
