Obituary for Bonnie Ruth Hill James

On Sunday June 22, 2025 Bonnie Ruth Hill James, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great
grandmother, and Great-great-grandmother passed away at the age of 89 in Bountiful, Utah
and was reunited with her beloved husband Jim.
Bonnie was born on October 9, 1935 in Kimberly, Twin Falls Idaho to James Franklin Hill and
Hildegard Ingeborg Emilie Trost Hill. She graduated from Wa-Hi High School in Walla Walla
Washington and attended Brigham Young University. She married James F. James on August 5,
1954 for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple.
Bonnie played the French Horn in the Wa-Hi Blue Devils marching band and was honored to
represent Wa-Hi in the All-State Band. She was also proud to participate in the ROTC program.
She was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served
in many callings. One of her most cherished callings was serving as Primary President. She loved
all children and went on to serve for many years as a primary teacher. She loved to serve others
in any way she could. She had an abiding testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and of Jesus
Christ as Savior and Redeemer.
Service to others was her passion. She was an avid gardener and canner and she passed that
skill on to many of her children and daughters in law. The gallons of strawberry freezer jam she
made over the years is incalculable. She was an excellent cook and baker. Breads, pies, cakes,
and cookies were also her specialty. Friends, neighbors, and especially grandchildren loved her
oatmeal butterscotch or chocolate chip cookies, baked in countless dozens over the years. She
also loved quilting and making baby quilts. In later years she became an avid Seattle Mariners
fan and could quote stats of her favorite players like no other.
Bonnie was preceded in death by her loving husband Jim.
She is survived by Sons Greg (Connie) Newcastle, Wyoming, Alan (Sandy) South Jordan, Utah,
Brant (Irene) Windsor, Missouri, Dwight (Connie) Pendleton, Oregon. Daughter Janette Spencer
(Steve) Kaysville, Utah, 34 Grandchildren, 70 Greatgrandchildren (one more in August) and 1
Great-Greatgrandchild.
The family would like to express our thanks to the care team at Monument Health Bountiful for
their end-of- life care, and to her Bristol Hospice nurse Shasta.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, June 30, 2025 at 10:30 am at the Olney Cemetery located at 865 Tutuilla Road Pendleton, Oregon 97801.
