Dennis Patrick Doherty

Dennis Patrick Doherty was born January 29, 1923 in LaGrande, Oregon and died June 16, 2022 in Pendleton.  He was the son of Dennis Francis Doherty and Mary Frances Doherty. 

Dennis entered active duty in the Navy on December 30, 1942 and served on the USS Young.  He received the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, American Area Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.  He was honorably discharged on December 26, 1945. 

Dennis worked at the mill in Pilot Rock until he retired.  Over the years, he also worked during the Round-Up as a ground crew member, the Forest Service during summer fire seasons, St. Mary’s church maintaining the grounds and buildings and he worked for the Little League maintaining the grounds.  Dennis belonged to the Eagles Lodge for many years and always kept himself busy.

Survivors include his four daughters, Cathy Sue Johnson, Mary Lou Jamison, Theresa Marie Thompson and Frances Ann Doherty and his good friend Shirley Baker.

Dennis was an Irishman who had a great personality and could make you laugh with his sense of humor.  He always left you laughing.

A Recitation of the Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 27, 2022 at Pendleton Pioneer Chapel, Folsom-Bishop.  A Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 28 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.  Interment with military honors will follow at Onley Cemetery.  Following the funeral, there will be a reception at the church.
