Douglas Jack McEwen, Adams, Oregon, passed away July 9, 2023 at the age of 76. The Last Shindig will be held Saturday, August 5, drop in 1:00 – 4:00 at the Hales Ranch.
Doug was born August 15, 1946, in Pendleton, Oregon, the son of Ralph B. and Margaret I. Hodgen McEwen. He spent most of his youth in Athena, Oregon. He grew up working in the wheatand peas fields and attended McEwen High School. He moved to Pendleton and graduated from Pendleton High School in 1964. After High School he attended Oregon State University,receiving a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Agricultural Economics. Doug began his successful career as an agronomist as a Field Manager for Rogers Seed Company in Walla Walla.He was soon promoted to Field Department Manager overseeing a variety of vegetables grown and processed in Oregon and Washington. Doug became Regional Sales Manager for Rogers then finished his career at Syngeta. Doug’s vast knowledge, passion and experience contributed to the success and development of new and improved varieties of green peas and sweet corn.
On October 9, 1971, he married Dianne Kaser in Pendleton, Oregon and had three daughters, JoAnna, Molly and Margy. Doug enjoyed many years trap shooting, fishing and hunting with his beloved dog, Rover. Along with his three daughters he participated in Rodeo, Mustangers and pack trips. He was a long time Pendleton Round-Up Volunteer, enjoyed golf, football and an avid weather watcher. Doug appreciated simple country life and especially enjoyed following his grandchildren in all their activities and athletics.
Doug is survived by his daughters; JoAnna J. McEwen (Mark) Hales of Adams, Or., Molly J. McEwen (Erik) Davis of Pendleton, Or., and Margy A. McEwen (Adam) Hawkins of Scottsdale, AZ.;Sister Gaye McEwen Haverland of Eugene, Or.; Grandchildren Michael, Jacob, Madeline, Jace, Blake, Jackson, Landrie, Halley, Delaney, Maya and Gleason as well as many nieces andnephews. Doug was proceeded in death by his parents and sister Susan McEwen Albee.
He was deeply loved and will be forever missed.
