Evelyn Hixson was born in Fall River, Kansas Wednesday, August 22, 1923 to Manuel and Jesse Meyers. She died on Thursday, October 27, 2022 in Pendleton. She was one of 5 children. Kenneth, Rea and Sonny preceded her in death and is survived by Charlotte.
Evelyn attended school in Ordway, Colorado. There she married her high school sweetheart, George Hixson on July 30, 1944. She had 2 boys, Monty and Bret. She raised her boys on a cattle and sheep ranch and did substitute teaching in Crowley County.
After completing her teaching degree in Colorado, Evelyn and George moved to a cattle ranch in Long Creek, Oregon in 1968. She spent her time caring for the family and teaching 5th and 6th grade in Monument and Long Creek. Evelyn loved flowers. She started her floral shop in Long Creek. This shop was quite popular during proms, graduations and weddings of the area.
Evelyn was proud of the young minds that she helped shape. It always brought a smile to her face to hear of the success of one of her former students or to have one of them stop by to visit and say “thank you”.
In 2000, Evelyn and George moved to Pendleton to live near Monty and his wife Jeanine. She enjoyed watching the development of their granddaughter Kathryn and the friendship of many wonderful neighbors.
After 70 years of marriage, Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband George. Her son Monty passed in 2017. She leaves behind her son Bret and his wife Sue, daughter in law Jeannine and her granddaughter, Kathryn.
At Evelyn’s request there will be no funeral or memorial service.
