Iris Christensen Obituary

Iris Leona Christensen 92 of Pilot Rock died December 24 at SunRidge retirement home with loved ones by her side.

Iris was born July 11, 1931 in Pendleton at St. Anthony’s hospital to Fritz (Fredrick) and Virgi (Lillian Virginia Bradburn) Hoeft.

Iris graduated from Pilot Rock high school in 1950. She then married her high school sweetheart Harry Christensen in December 1950 on New Year’s Eve in a beautiful evening ceremony at the presbyterian church, in Pilot Rock. It was a wild night to say the least, the night ended with a car chase through a few yards almost landing them in a hole that was dug in a back yard. They finally made it out of town. They had two sons William and Lennis that they were both very proud of.

Iris worked for the Pilot Rock Hardware, Bill Bowers grocery store. After the grocery store she went to work for the Pilot Rock school district and became the head cook at the elementary school for 33 years. To this day people still talk about her cinnamon rolls.

Her and Harry were both lifetime members of the Northwest Trail Riders Association. She spent numerous hours and miles with her loved ones cutting, flagging and riding trails in the Winom Frazier complex. One day while building a bridge on one of the trails she slipped and continued working and later that night found out she had broken her leg. She loved to go camping, fishing and spending time at the cabin.

Iris is survived by her sister Delores Porter of Lake Oswego, sister Sharon Warren of Kennewick, son Bill (Wendy) of Pilot Rock, daughter in law Donna (Mentzer) Christensen, grandchild Amanda (JD) Harrison of Pendleton, Rena Christensen of Pilot Rock, Ryan Christensen of Condon, John (Kacy) of Echo, Jennifer (Evan) of Pilot Rock. Great grandchildren Trysten, Brayden, Avery, Dallie, Braylee, Isabelle, and Billie.

Iris is proceeded in death by her husband Harry, parents, brother Gary Hoeft and her son Lennis.
