Joe Don Cox, was born in Ramona, Oklahoma to Norris and Ruby Cox. The youngest of six children, he graduated from Ramona High School in 1959. Soon after graduation he left for Oregon to visit his
brothers. While in Oregon, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served from 1959- 1967, with one tour in Viet Nam. While stationed in San Francisco, California, he met the love of his life, Juanita Marie Jones,
and they wed on June 1st, 1962. He was a welder/ fabricator most of his life, he was also an active member of the VFW and American Legion and was a friend and advocate for many veterans. He loved his dogs, Spud and Puddles. He was a loving husband, father and proud Grandpa and Great Grandpa, and Uncle to many, as well as a dear friend.
He passed away in his home surrounded by family at the age of 82. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Juanita M. Cox. His sister Laura Cross of Owasso, Oklahoma. Two daughters, Lisa Hungary of Portland, Oregon, Lori Minthorn and her husband Kent Minthorn of Auburn, Washington. Great Grandson Joseph Phillips of Irrigon, Oregon, who he and his wife raised since infancy. Grandaughters, Jeanita LittleBoy
and Nadine Smith of Portland, Oregon. Celina BearGhost of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Shaina Nomee of Plummer, Idaho, and Shante Watlamet of Lancaster Pennylvania. He also has 10 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews all over the country. Joe is predeceased by his parents Norris and Ruby Cox, his brothers Jay, Doyle, Emmett, and Leo Cox. His son Troy Cox, and his grandson Joseph Hungary.
Graveside services will be held at the Irrigon Oregon Cemetery, Saturday, July 22, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. Officiating will be his dear friend Pastor Jack Schut.
