Maria J Hueramo de Zurita passed away peacefully at her home in Pendleton, Oregon, on February 11, 2026, at the age of 73. She was born on September 6, 1952, in Michoacan, Mexico, to J. Ausencio Hueramo and Catalina Loeza.
Maria dedicated her life to her spouse and to serving others. She began her working years as a housekeeper through various motels and was later employed at Mcdonald’s in town, where she was known for her strong work ethic and warm spirit. No matter where she worked, Maria carried herself with humility, grace, and kindness, always showing up with dedication–whether it was raining, snowing, or blazing hot.
Even through her illness, Maria remained strong. Up until her last breath, she never complained or broke down about what she was going through or the pain she endured. Her quiet strength, resilience, and unwavering faith were a reflection of the remarkable woman she was.
To many, she was lovingly known as “Isabel” or “Chavelita.” She had a wonderful sense of humor, loved to tell jokes, and brought light and laughter to those around her. She will be deeply missed, especially the familiar sight of her walking to work or around town with her red cart.
Maria’s memory will live on in the hearts of her beloved husband, Jose Alfredo Zurita; her sister and brother who reside in Michoacan, Mexico; and all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Ausencio Hueramo and Catalina Loeza, as well as two brothers and a sister.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the Pendleton Pioneer Chapel at 5 p.m. The Recitation of the Holy Rosary will take place on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church at 2 p.m., followed by a Memorial Mass at 3 p.m. After the Memorial Mass, you are all welcome to join us in a small gathering in the Kateri Hall.
