Raphael Tony Raymond, 69, passed away July 28, 2024 at his home surrounded by family. Tony was
born January 20, 1955 to parents Royal and Wilma Raymond of Helix, OR. He was raised on the family
farm and cattle ranch with his sisters, Becky and Jennifer.
Tony graduated from Helix High School and attended college at Oregon Institute of Technology. He
enjoyed sports, played football, and was a very good athlete. After college, he traveled for a year or so
before returning home to Helix to begin his life-long passion of ranching.
In 1976 he married Peggy Smith, also from Helix, and they had 3 sons, Ryan, Tyson and Chance. Tony
was active in the community, serving on the Helix School Board, Pendleton Grain Growers board, and
volunteered at the Pendleton Round Up for over 25 years. After he and Peggy divorced, Tony later
married Cindy Dougherty.
Tony’s passion was cattle ranching. He spent much of his youth and adult life in Wallowa, where his
family summered cattle. He was happiest on a horse in Brown meadow or drinking a beer on the porch of
the cabin after a day working on fence.
Tony dedicated his life to his work and to ensuring that future generations would have everything
necessary to succeed. Be it the farm ground, the cattle herd, the farmhouses, equipment, and friends
and family, everything and everybody that Tony touched was left a little better.
Tony was preceded in death by his parents and brother- in- law, Bill Davis. He is survived by his wife,
Cindy, sons Ryan and Amy and their boys, Pace and Colter. Son Tyson and his boys, Uriah and Malachi,
son Chance, step- daughters Haley Kannard, Ashley Bronson, stepson Skylar and wife Tara Leasy and
seven grandchildren, sisters Becky and husband Monte Evans, and Jennifer Davis.
Services will be held Friday August 16, 2024 at the Helix Cemetery at 4 p.m. with a reception following.
Donations may be made to the Vange John Memorial Hospice 645 W Orchard Ave Hermiston, OR and the Helix FFA.
