Rodney Bernard Soft, 60, of Brush Prairie, Washington passed on at his home and went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 4, 2025. Rodney was born on February 24, 1965, in Port Clinton, Ohio, son of Roland and Ann (Von Ruden) Soft.
Rodney grew up in Pendleton, Oregon in a home just above the high school. He went to Pendleton First Free Methodist Church, where he participated in Teen Bible Quizzing. He was in the Boy Scouts of America and earned his Eagle Scout. He attended Blue Mountain Community College then Oregon State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Rodney started a career in electrical engineering working for General Electric. Rodney was introduced to Rhonda Otis at Pendleton First Free Methodist Church by his father. Rodney and Rhonda were married on April 24, 1993 by their brother-in-law, Rev. Alan E. Wyland. Rodney’s career took them to Spokane, Washington where they became active in the Church of the Nazarene and lived for over three years.
In 1996, Rodney and Rhonda moved to Brush Prairie, Washington for Rodney to work at Shin-Etsu (SEH) America, then to have a career with Clark Public Utilities since 2003. There they started their family and remained for 29 years. Rodney was dedicated to sharing his faith in Christ. He fervently served at Fourth Plain Church of the Nazarene. He led the choir every Christmas and Easter, as well as various special songs throughout the year. He also served on the church board, trustee committee, and building committee, working on maintenance of the church building. Rodney was involved in the remodel and building the new church building. Rodney shared his love by being a handy man for friends and family in whatever way they needed.
Rodney is survived by his four children: Russell Soft, Rebekah Soft, Rhianna Soft, and Reuben Soft; his parents-in-law: John and Connie Otis of Hermiston, Oregon; his sisters: Renee and Rhonda; his brothers-in-law: Robert Armstrong and Troy (Laurie) Otis; along with many other relatives and friends whose lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bernhard and Clara Soft; his parents, Roland and Ann Soft; his sister, Rolann Armstrong; his brother-in-law, Alan Wyland; and his wife of 31 years, Rhonda M. Soft.
