Roland Allen Fulbright November 28, 1950 - August 22, 2022

Roland was born to Cecil Leander Fulbright and Sloma Dallas Fulbright on November 28, 1950 in Pendleton, Oregon.

The family were members of the 1st Christian Church in Hermiston for many years. He attended schools in Hermiston and Pilot Rock, Oregon. Roland graduated in the Class of 1969 at Pilot Rock, High School.

After graduation, he joined the National Guard and served in WA State, based in Walla Walla as a ‘motor sgt’ where he served for 8 years before leaving the guard. He enjoyed his service at the Yakima Firing Range, his ‘crew’ and the tanks. Roland was called to duty when Walla Walla Prison was rioting as a National Guardsman. He was also called out for fires in the same capacity. Roland worked briefly at the Pilot Rock mill before moving to Hermiston to work at Marlette Homes for 18 years.

Roland married Karen Marlene Cross on May 11, 1979. In 1983 they welcomed a son into their family. Chester Curtis Fulbright was born on Jan 23, 1983. Roland changed careers in 1991 and became a Correctional Officer at Eastern Oregon Correctional Institution. The family moved back to Pilot Rock in 2002. Roland retired from EOCI after 21 years and 4 months.

Roland was an enthusiastic 2nd amendment man, and everything firearms. His love was shooting blackpowder, participating in two muzzleloader groups of the fur trapper, fur trader era for over 25 years. He also shot conventional and modern weapons. He was a member of Wenaha Muzzleloaders and the Grande Ronde Muzzleloaders. Roland loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and hunting. Roland was a musician.  He played guitar in local clubs during the 1970s thru 1991. He loved music and often participated in jam sessions.  He was a past member of Boardman Eagles and the White Eagle Grange. Roland was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marvin Roger and Cecil Raymond; sisters, Evelyn Lucille Hascall and Ethel June Toliver. Roland is survived by his wife Karen; son Chester; grandson, Eli Fulbright; granddaughter, Chloie-Noel Fulbright and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations to Vange John Memorial Hospice would be welcomed

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 26, 2022 at the Pilot Rock Cemetery.  An old time potluck will follow at the White Eagle Grange in Pilot Rock.  Please bring a dish to share.
