William Storie Obituary

William John Storie

November 26 1946-September 28 2022

William J. (Bill) Storie of Pendleton, Oregon passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022, at his home McKay Creek Estates. He was 75 years old. Mr. Storie was born on November 26 1946 in Walla Walla to John A. And Virginia M. Storie and joined his sister Mary Ann. He graduated from Pendleton High School in 1965.

Bill attended Whitman College in Walla Walla to study history, graduating in 1969. He then earned his jurisprudence degree at University of Oregon in 1972 and was admitted to the Oregon State Bar in the same year. Two years later, Bill was admitted to the U.S. District Court, District of Oregon.

Upon returning to Pendleton, Bill joined his first law practice, Currin and Storie. He also later practiced with Dave Gallaher and Doug Olsen. In addition, Bill was proud to have become the attorney for the Pendleton Round-Up Association. During this time, he married his former spouse Victoria (Bannister) Storie.

In 1983, he married Jill (Hodgen) Storie and welcomed his son John Elmer Storie in 1984. Bill relocated his family to Bend in 1989, joining the law firm of Bryant, Lovelin, and Jarvis. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, trap-shooter, golfer, cook and outdoorsman. Bill was a Cub Scout leader and helped coach his son’s youth bowling leagues. He volunteer-coached youth competitors at trap shooting events held by the Bend Trap Club and Redmond Rod & Gun club. Bill also assisted with Oregon Fish & Wildlife Hunter's Education classes. He cherished his time with his family, spending the winter holidays and summer months at Paulina Lake and their Black Butte Ranch home.

After suffering a stroke in 1997, Bill relocated to Pendleton full-time and retired from practicing law. He became McKay Creek Estates’ longest resident, living there full-time since 2000. Bill inspired the many residents who lived with him for over 22 years with his daily personal growth, always saying “slowly getting better, day by day”.

Bill loved his family and his Pendleton roots. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Elks, Ducks Unlimited, and the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer. He is survived by his sister Mary Ann Hill of Pendleton, son John Elmer Storie of California, three nephews and A.F.S. sister from Germany, Veronica W. Garmeister.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, October 14, at the Pendleton Pioneer Chapel. Honorary pallbearers are Mike Temple, Roesch Kishpaugh, Tim Hill, and Rodger Warwick. There will also be a celebration of life at Henry’s Lake, Idaho to be announced early next year. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to Pendleton Foundation Trust.
