DENNIS EVERETT JONES

Oct 10, 1935- Nov 26, 2010

Friday, November 26th 2010, Dennis Everett Jones passed away after a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma. He passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving wife and daughters.  Viewing will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 12 to 5 and on Saturday 9 to 10:30 and 3:30 to 5.  A Celebration of Life service will be at 1:30, Saturday, Decemer 4, 2010 at the Athena Christian Church.

He was born Oct. 10, 1935 at home in Harmony, OR to Everett and Catherine Jones. Dennis graduated from Sheridan High School in 1953, joined the US Army in 1955 and was stationed in El Paso, TX. While stationed there, he met his future wife, Justa(Julie) Avila. She later passed away.

Following his service in the Army, he attended Linfield College in McMinville, OR getting his degree in Business Administration. Upon graduation, Dennis was employed by the US Forest Service where he was employed by the Umpqua, Fremont and Umatilla National Forests.

Dennis met his wife, Cindy and gained two new daughters, Lori and Kris to join his three daughters, Teresa, Sharon and Karen. Dennis loved his daughters and all the joy and laughter they shared together.

He retired in 1985 as Administrative Officer for the Umatilla National Forest and went on to sell real estate for Whitney and Associates.  Later, he attended Ecola Hall Bible School and Multnomah Bible College. He then became the Pastor of Oceanlake Christian Church in Lincoln City, OR.

Dennis and Cindy returned to Athena in the mid 90’s where he enjoyed doing many jobs around town with his buddies, Larry English and Bill Simmons. They referred to themselves as the “Three Amigos”. He also worked on building projects with Everett Pixler, and was a teacher’s assistant for the Weston Middle School.

Some of Dennis’ accomplishments were President of the Lions Club, President of the Athena Chamber of Commerce, 2004 Athena Citizen of the Year, a member of the American Legion and Elder, Deacon, Asst. Pastor and Chairman of the Board for the Athena Christian Church.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing tennis, volleyball, camping, hunting, playing music, attending many sporting events in Athena-Weston, eating chocolate and drinking his Pepsi!

Dennis is survived by his loving wife, Cindy, and daughters Teresa, Karen, Sharon, Lori and Kris, brothers Dale, Darrel and sisters Louise and Jill, 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Walla Walla Hospice, Athena Christian Church, and Pioneer Chapel.

Dennis was a very humble, giving and loving man. He had a close relationship with the Lord, and we know he is in His Loving Arms.

Memorial donations may be made to the Athena Christian Church Expansion Fund in care of Pendleton Pioneer Chapel, Folsom-Bishop, 131 SE Byers Ave., Pendleton, OR 97801
