Sanford “Sandy” Wayne Bishop, 86, of Pendleton, Oregon, died May 7, 2018. He was born September 10, 1931, in Lewiston, Idaho, to John Alfred “Fritz” Bishop and Grace Ermal Tindall Bishop. He is survived by his wife, Renee Ramsey Bishop. He was preceded in death by his brother Johnnie O. Bishop, and has a living brother, Phillip E. Bishop (100) in Salem, Oregon. Also surviving are three children, Jill Bishop (Mike) Megehee, Pendleton, Mark S. Bishop (Lori Bryan), Arizona, and Scott S. (Tara) Bishop, Pendleton; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Sandy graduated from Pendleton High School in 1950. After graduation he joined the Navy where he served on the ship USS General AE Anderson and on the Island of Guam. Upon his release from the Navy he moved to Salem, Oregon, where he rekindled a friendship from Pendleton with Renee Ramsey. They married on September 11, 1955. In 1957 he graduated from San Francisco School of Mortuary Science. He was employed for many years in Medford, Oregon, as Operations Manager of Conger-Morris Funeral Home. In 1969 the opportunity arose for him and Renee to purchase Folsom Funeral Chapel in Pendleton, becoming Folsom-Bishop Funeral Chapel where he served the community until his retirement.

Sandy enjoyed his associations in community service organizations. He also served on the Oregon Board of Funeral Directors.

A great love of Sandy’s was to spend time in the outdoors with his sons and grandsons, fishing and hunting. His family was his greatest joy.

He was an active, faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 12th, 2018, at 9:00 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Pendleton Chapel, Northwest 12th Street and Gilliam. A private family interment will follow at Olney Cemetery.

I never worked with Sandy at Conger-Morris, but between Steve Morris and Jennie Frederick, I heard all about him. Then I finally met him at an OFDA convention, one of the kindest men I have ever met.

I worked for Sandy(but he gave me the feeling it was more "with" )him an and Renee in the early 1990's. He was a kind and especially caring man for both the families and his community. Many fond memories.

What a blessing to know Sandy and call him my friend. I shall miss him and it is with great faith I know he will be welcomed into the arms of our Savior.. What a kind and gentle man and I will always be grateful to he and Renee for the loving care they gave our family with the loss of our dear family members. A good man not to be forgotten.

Dear Renee, Just received a phone message from my brother Arlen, who was in Pendleton this week for a class reunion, informing me that Sandy passed on, and his services were today. Although I live far away from you and have had contact only a few times over the past almost 70 years I think of you and Sandy often, and have wonderful memories of my life in Pendleton. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with and for you and your family today. May the Lord bless and comfort you with the greater knowledge that you have. Warmest personal regards, Gary Jenkins

Sandy is truly one of a kind, soft, caring, always a kind word and smile of affirmation. I was very young when I first knew him, and I believe he worked for Dad on the farm north of Pendleton during harvest a year or two - hard to remember, so many years ago. But once you know Sandy, you always know him. Just wish people were like him today. Lord, I do pray I will be able to live with Sandy and all of your people in your house someday forever.

To the family of Stanford Bishop--I just recently was informed of the passing of Stanford. He would have been a mason in Washington Lodge #46 AF & AM of Portland for 60 Years. He was raised a Master Mason in June of 1958. Our sincere condolences to the family and if you need any assistance from Washington Lodge or the Grand Lodge of Oregon please don't hesitate to let me know. I know the lodge in Pendleton would also be of assistance if the need arises.

Sincerely & fraternally,

Don Stapleton, Secretary & Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Oregon (2015-2016)
